WEEK SEVEN RECAP

Week seven of the high school football season and there were a lot of great games that involved local teams. The St. Mary’s Rams and Granger Lions found themselves picking up wins on Friday while the Tayor Ducks, Hutto Hippos and Thrall Tigers were not so lucky. The Rams went on the road and defeated the Buckholts Badgers 68-20. The Rams received a major contribution from senior Andrew Flores scoring his first touchdown of the season. 10/12/2022 07:32 AM

Tigerettes top Thorndale

After spotting the Thorndale Lady Dogs (21-12 overall, 3-1 District 26-2A) a one set lead, the Thrall Tigerettes (22-13, 4-0) seized control of Saturday’s match to take sole possession of first place in District 26-2A with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 win. Thrall got off to a quick start in the opening set, leading 3-0, but Thorndale took advantage of solid net play and multiple Tigerettes miscues to take a 9-3 lead. The Lady Dogs were able to maintain control until the late going when Thrall made a run to cut the lead to 24-22, but Kyndal Robinson’s kill closed out the first set for Thorndale. 10/12/2022 07:32 AM

Williamson County Fair and Rodeo on the way

Carnival rides, live music, food, animals and more are just a taste of the many events scheduled between Oct. 26-29 for the 2022 Williamson County Fair and Rodeo at the Williamson County Expo Center, 5350 Bill Pickett Trail in Taylor. The fair will kick off with a family night, sponsored by the YMCA, featuring free gate admission for families to the fairgrounds. Activities will include carnival rides, a beer and wine garden, a petting zoo, pig races, stick horse races for kids ages three to five, arts and crafts vendors and more. In addition, visitors can watch the Paul Bunyan show, a competition of world champion lumberjacks demonstrating modern and old-time lumberjack skills. The rodeo, which is sponsored by the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association, will be held Friday and Saturday and will feature riders from all over the county competing for bragging rights and cash prizes. There will be a mutton bustin’, and kids calf scramble as well. A new feature for this year will be a Tejano night Friday, featuring mariachi music, folklorico dance, a tribute to the late Tejano artist Selena by Amanda Solis, as well as musical performances from Ram Herrera, Yayo Castillo y Rumores and more. 10/12/2022 07:32 AM

The Taylor Rotary Club is seeking the community’s help to determine who should receive the honor of being named 2022’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year. “Taylor Rotarians have coordinated this honor since 1943, when Harry Pickoff won it the first time,” Club President Tia Rae Stone said. “This annual award is a statement about our community and its values, we could not choose the recipient without the help of the public.” To be considered, nominees must have resided in East Williamson County and be involved in local activities in 2022.
