Joe Diaz Jr., 71, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 11, 2023 surrounded by his wife and family. Joe was born May 22, 1952, in Taylor, to Virginia Gonzales and Joe Diaz Sr.

Outrageous and beloved LeAnn Christine Mueller, 51, of Austin, and Los Angeles California, passed away Wednesday, June 14, in Austin, following an unexpected medical emergency. She was surrounded by her wife, Allison Clem, who never left her side, and close friends.

On Wednesdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Taylor seniors will be playing Bingo at the Tripp Center, 1517 McLain. The center recommends each attendee bring a can of soup, sugar free cookies or other household items for a Bingo prize. The event can be helpful for meeting new people and building comradery. On Saturday, July 1, from 6 to 10 p.m., avoid the heat with a vintage summer night market hosted by Taylor Market Days, 410 W. Seventh St. Admission is free. There will be over 50 curated vendors, indoor and outdoor live music and pets are allowed.

HUTTO – On Tuesday, July 4, the city of Hutto will host their July 4 celebration from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Brushy Creek Amphitheater, 1001 CR 137, Hutto. This family-friendly event will have live music, food trucks and kids’ activities. A fireworks display will end the night’s festivities. COUNCIL HONORS FIRE DEPARTMENT’S HEROISM Members of the Taylor Fire Department whose quick actions saved the lives of two apartment dwellers stranded in an apartment fire earlier this month recently received personal expressions of thanks from elected leaders and a standing ovation for their heroism. At the regular meeting June 22, city leaders shook the hands of some of the firefighters who helped with a dramatic rescue of two individuals trapped on a second-floor balcony at the Burnett Place Apartments June 5.

A new housing subdivision proposed along Wesley Miller Lane by Taylor High School will test the flexibility of the city’s Envision Taylor comprehensive plan and council’s willingness to make exceptions for growth.

The Greater Taylor Foundation has officially launched. Hosted by the Taylor Chamber of Commerce, GTF kicked off its foundation with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Taylor Mansion on Monday, June 26.

While Heritage Park was filled with Pride flags and LGBTQ empowerment during the Taylor Pride Music and Arts Festival, protestors who were against what the event stood for surrounded the perimeter. Those who wished to partake in the Pride festivities Saturday, June 24, first had to pass Christian-based protestors and signs with anti-LGBTQ messages.
