The rate of new weekly COVID-19 cases in Williamson County was sliced by about half this past week. Confirmed cases, which include past and current cases reported to the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD), increased by 1,299 in Williamson County Feb.

Spring is just around the corner and weeds will be emerging in your rangeland shortly, so it is time to take your Private Pesticide Applicator Training. For the first time in many years, there are new herbicide active ingredients registered for weed control in pasture and rangelands. Some of the most effective weed control products must be applied very early in spring to small weeds, and in some instances even before weed seeds germinate. Note that a Private Applicator License will be required to purchase and/or apply RESTRICTED USE (RU) herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.

Did you know the Williamson County Master Gardeners have a demonstration garden in which they plant a wide variety of flowers, vegetables and fruits? Master Gardeners Judy Williams, Dale Hill and Jim Williams will present a free program to discuss the results of recent vegetable trials conducted at the AgriLife Demonstration Garden. They will discuss marigolds, parsnips, potatoes and lots of tips and advice.

Playoff hopes for the 2022 Taylor boys basketball team are in critical condition. The Ducks have dropped their last five games and need some big help to get in. Taylor would need to win out and Lake Belton would lose the remainder of their games.

LADY DUCKS DOWN, BUT NOT OUT The Taylor girls’ basketball team traveled to Burnet this past Saturday after cold weather delayed their game on Friday night. The Lady Ducks failed to take down the undefeated Lady Bulldogs falling 56-35.

Well, we have made it to the final NFL game of the season Super Bowl LVI (56). I suppose it could’ve been branded XXXXXVI but that’s too long. The Rams and Bengals square off at 5:30 p.m. CST this evening. Who comes out on top?

The Granger Lady Lions season concluded on the road against Thorndale last Tuesday as the 9-1 Lady Dawgs defeated Granger 78-23. The contest was all Thorndale from the start of the contest.

Haiden Copeland hit a short jumper with fou seconds left in overtime to give the Thrall Tigers (10-17 overall, 2-6 District 27-2A) a 58-56 win over the Milano Eagles (12-12, 7-1) Tuesday night in a mustwin game for the Tigers.
