Taylor suffered a large power outage in the late hours of Independence Day. On July 4, residents in central and north Taylor were without electricity, some from shortly after sunset into the early morning hours of July 5.

A Thursday fire destroyed a home near the northern edge of Taylor. On June 30, the Taylor Fire Department and others responded to a fire at 11 a.m.

The ninth annual Taylor Press 3-on-3 basketball tournament is this weekend, and there’s still time to sign up. “We want as many people to sign up as we can,” said Jason Hennington, publisher and tournament director.

Older residents have local opportunities for fun and to meet with each other every month. The Tripp Center Games such as Bingo can be enjoyed every month at the Tripp Center, 1517 McLain St.

There will be fireworks in the sky over Williamson County this weekend, but most residents are not allowed to launch the pyrotechnics themselves. Local cities’ and county officials have each issued statements on what restrictions are in place regarding fireworks as the Fourth of July approaches.

Two lifeguards lived up to their namesake and were recently recognized as lifesavers. On June 23, YMCA lifeguards Sydney Branson and Landon Mikulencak were recognized at the Taylor City Council meeting for saving a life in the pool of the Doris Roznovak Aquatic Center in Taylor earlier this summer.

Residents can dust up with Taylor’s development codes next Wednesday. Code Rodeo: Code Development Update will be held July 13 at the Taylor Public Library, 801 Vance St.
