Jolene Volek was one of the few people to run towards danger during a tornado March 21. On Wednesday Aug. 17 she received an award for her bravery. Volek rescued a Granger student from the rubble the tornado left and is being recognized for being a hero in the Granger community.

The Taylor Area Businesswomen organization had special guests at their July meeting. TAB members opened their July meeting with a prayer.

At the regular meeting for the Taylor Independent School District Aug. 15, the board voted 7-0 to set a tax rate of $1.2854 per $100 valuation of properties, lowering the rate from years past. Residents concerned about manufactured homes being allowed in residential areas gave the Taylor City Council an earful during a discussion about reimagining the Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan. Officials countered that rising house prices and an increasing population mean other types of affordable housing must be allowed, including manufactured housing.
