The house Jolene Volek rescued a student from after the tornado on March 21.
Small town hero honored for bravery

Jolene Volek was one of the few people to run towards danger during a tornado March 21. On Wednesday Aug. 17 she received an award for her bravery. Volek rescued a Granger student from the rubble the tornado left and is being recognized for being a hero in the Granger community.

Tax rate lowered for  Taylor ISD
Tax rate lowered for Taylor ISD

At the regular meeting for the Taylor Independent School District Aug. 15, the board voted 7-0 to set a tax rate of $1.2854 per $100 valuation of properties, lowering the rate from years past. In addition, the board opted to not take advantage of three additional disaster pennies that would have been permitted by the state for this fiscal year due to Winter Storm Uri.

Residents tell council ‘not in my backyard’

Residents concerned about manufactured homes being allowed in residential areas gave the Taylor City Council an earful during a discussion about reimagining the Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan. Officials countered that rising house prices and an increasing population mean other types of affordable housing must be allowed, including manufactured housing.
