Safety tips before you shoot:

• do not let your children buy fireworks without adult supervision • only buy from reliable fireworks sellers • never experiment or attempt to make your own fireworks • store fireworks in a cool, dry place • find a smooth, flat surface, away from the house or other buildings, dry leaves or grass • be sure to have water handy in case of a malfunction or fire • always have adult supervision when you’re ready to shoot: • never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks • always read and follow label directions, warnings and instructions • be considerate of your neighbors • only ignite fireworks outdoors and away from houses and other structures • light only one firework at a time • never try to re-light fireworks that have not fully functioned • never give fireworks to small children, even sparklers cause serious burns • be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks • never throw fireworks at another person, vehicle or animal • never carry fireworks in your pocket • never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers • dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal trash can away from any building or combustible materials until the next day..

TAYLOR WW II HUMBLED BY RECENT FAME Though local World War II veteran Archie Moczygemba has seen his fair share of action over the course of his 98 years, lately things in his life have gone into overdrive. Since last August, Moczygemba, who is also a veteran of the Korean War and a retired employee of the Texas Department of Public Safety, has been featured twice by Austin news station KVUE, made the cover of the Austin American-Statesman, and was featured in the Taylor Press for its Veterans Day issues.

“In God We Trust” posters a non-issue

School districts in our area have not reported any controversy over donated “In God We Trust” placards, officials said. In the 87th legislative session, state lawmakers passed Senate Bill 797, requiring school districts to display a donated framed copy of the statement, which is the official motto of the United States.

When Stevie Widders needed help, she knew she could count on her sister Kaitlyn Billings. Widders and Billings both serve as Animal Control Officers, but in different cities, Billings in Taylor and Widders in Navasota.
