Hunt for eggs this weekend

The Easter Bunny will be out and about this weekend, including a few stops in Taylor. Easter egg hunts will be destinations of fun Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the city of Taylor will host its annual Easter egg hunt in Heritage Square, this year with a few additions such as games, face painting and live music. According to Jan Harris, Main Street manager, there may be a pet-a-truck area as well.

“I’m so excited because we have partners,” Harris said. “I am so happy to have people who want to put in a little bit of sweat equity to make this a fun event.”

The city is partnering with Frontier Bank and Linea De Vida to host the event. Frontier Bank was planning an Easter egg hunt and decided to combine the event with the city.

Hunts will begin at 10 a.m., with three different areas based on age. The 7-10 age group will go first, followed by the 4-6 year olds and finished with the 0-3 year old group.

“That’s moving from west to east,” Harris said about the plan in the park.

The oldest group will be on the far left of the amphitheater stage, and the youngest group will be in playground area.

“There are 10,000 eggs. There’s no way we can really hide them,” Harris laughed. “Half of them are candy filled, and half of them are toy filled.”

Harris is watching the weather, which shows a 30% chance of rain, and said the event could be delayed.

“Thunder will kill it,” she said. “I don’t want to run an event, especially with children, if there is thunder.”

The Easter egg hunt is free and open to the public.

Hood Hunt returns

The Easter Bunny has plans to stop by on Easter. On Sunday, April 9, the Braided Faded Crew will host their 10th annual Hood Hunt at the Dickey Givens Community Center in Fannie Robinson Park.

Similar to previous years, there will be multiple hunts based on age.

“We’re going to wait and see how many kiddos are in attendance, then we will break them down in groups,” said Shareeta Fairley, Braided Faded Crew founder.

In addition to the age groups, there will be a mega hunt to close the event. All ages, including adults, are welcome to join the mega hunt.

“If you are not present when your age group is called, you will have to wait until the mega hunt,” Fairley said. “If you cannot wait until the mega hunt, I will make exceptions and make sure those involved get eggs and something to snack on.”

Each year, the Hood Hunt has a unique twist to prizes in the eggs. Some contain candy or toys, while others may have cash prizes.

The Hood Hunt is open to the entire community.

Donations are still being accepted for the Hood Hunt. Anyone who would like to make a donation, call Fairley at 737-259-1726.
