Francisco “Frank” Valdez, 62, of Taylor, Texas passed away October 15, 2022. He was born October 10, 1960, in Taylor, A memorial service is to be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd N.W., Taylor.

The Hutto Hippos won their first district game of the season on homecoming night in dominating fashion. The Hippos defeated the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs 49-31 Friday night at Hutto Memorial Stadium.

The Taylor Ducks have won a district game for the first time since Nov. 9, 2018.

HUTTO – The Hutto Lady Hippos were defeated by the Copperas Cove Lady Bulldawgs 3-0 Friday night. The Lady Hippos lost 26-24, 25-20 and 26-24 in a five-set match. Communication was a problem for the Hutto Friday night. On several occasions, there were a group of Lady Hippos calling for the ball, which would land right in the middle of them.

Thorndale quarterback Coy Stutts ran for four scores and threw a 67-yard scoring strike to Clason Beasley to lead the Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 4-1 District 13-2A) to a 46-14 win over the Thrall Tigers (2-6, 1-3) Friday night in Thrall.

Early voting in the Nov. 8 general election begins Oct. 24 and runs through Nov. 4. Applications for voting by mail must be received by Oct. 28, according to the secretary of state’s office. Texans are eligible to vote by mail if they are 65 or older; sick or disabled; are expected to give birth within three weeks of Election Day; will be absent from the county where they vote during early voting and on Election Day; or are in jail but otherwise eligible.

Dear Editor, City cemeteries in many places—Texas and elsewhere—have created effective and compassionate ways to enforce their versions of a “No Clutter Clause,” as it is so insensitively described in the Taylor City Cemetery’s “Rules for Beautification and Improvement.” From asking families to supplement perpetual- care funds, which every Taylor plot-owner is required to pay into already, by the way, to allowing church and community groups to organize volunteer cemetery clean-ups, cemeteries elsewhere are keeping things tidy without running roughshod over the bereaved. I likely am among many who have glossed over the “fine print” of the Taylor no-clutter clause while making funeral arrangements. When you’re in a state of shock, as we were after the sudden death in February of our dear friend, who would think to ask why neither a cross nor more than one set of flowers could be placed on her grave?

HUTTO – An estimated 10,000 people wound their way through vendor- lined streets to shop, eat, and enjoy a day of live music at the 37th Annual Hutto Old Tyme Days Saturday, Oct. 15.

As the year winds down, it is time for the citizens to choose who was outstanding in 2022. Nominations are being accepted for the 2022 “Outstanding Woman of the Year” sponsored by the Taylor Area Businesswomen. The award is presented at the annual Taylor Chamber of Commerce Banquet.
