This past Friday was the filing deadline for candidates for May election, and there will be a few contested races in our area. Taylor Four candidates will vie for the At-large seat on the Taylor City Council.

Disciplinary equality a goal for Hutto schools
Courtesy graphic: Hutto Independent School District HUTTO – Ensuring that students who break the same rules receive the same consequence, no matter which school they attend, their economic status or their ethnicity, is a challenge Hutto Independent School District staff is addressing. Kyle Ruggirello, assistant director of student affairs, told the Hutto ISD board of trustees at a recent meeting that the district is working to adopt changes which “address the disparities between student demographic groups and decrease the rate of student discipline referrals.” The District Improvement Plan lists this initiative as a goal to be accomplished by spring 2024.

City hires new company for debris removal
The city is on the hook for up to an estimated $1.4 million in unplanned expenses this year to deal with removing and processing all the branches and limbs from the ice storm, officials said. “We are entering into an agreement that should be mobilizing within 24 hours, with a minimum of five crews with grapplers and trucks picking up, and there is more if we need it,” said City Manager Brian LaBorde at the February 9th City Council meeting.

Percussion Park drums up ribbon cutting
Last week, the city of Taylor announced that the Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Good Life Taylor, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the recently completed Percussion Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. The playground is located in Murphy Park between the lake and the swimming pool.
