The filing deadline is Friday, Feb. 17 to run for open seats in the upcoming local election. Slowly but surely, applications are coming in for seats in local races.
Taylor
For the city of Taylor, At-large incumbent Councilman Dwayne Ariola is facing a challenge from Janetta McCoy for his seat on the City Council.
For the Taylor Independent School District board, At-large Trustee Jim Buzan and Place 1 Trustee Shorty have refilled their paperwork to run again. So far, no one has filed to challenge them.
Granger
For the city of Granger, Mayor Monica Stojanik and council members Rosie Sweeting and Lee Weaver’s seats are expiring. So far, no one has filed to run, according to city staff.
For the Granger Independent School District, three seats are up for grabs, including Board President Daryl Stefek’s, Board Secretary Sandra Carpenter’s and Peter Reese’s. So far, only Stefek and Reese have refiled their applications to run again, according to Granger ISD.
Thrall
For the city of Thrall, Anja Martin and Mayor Troy Marks’ seats are both up for grabs. So far, only Marks has filed to run again, according to city officials.
For the Thrall Independent School District, Board President Bryan Holubec, and Wesley Grisham’s terms are expiring. So far, only Holubec and Grisham have filed to run again.
Coupland
No seats will expire in May for the City Council nor the school board.
Hutto
In the City of Hutto, Seat 1, held by Robin Sutton, Seat 4, held by Peter Gordon, and Seat 5, which is an unexpired term held by Krystal Kinsey, are all up for grabs. So far, Marcus Allen Coleman has filed for Seat 5, and Sutton and Gordon have refiled.
In the Hutto Independent School District, two at-large seats are up for grabs, which are currently held by Felix Chavez and Shara Turner. So far only Turner and Chavez have filed to run again, according to Hutto ISD.
