Candidates set for May election

This past Friday was the filing deadline for candidates for May election, and there will be a few contested races in our area. Taylor Four candidates will vie for the At-large seat on the Taylor City Council.

This past Friday was the filing deadline for candidates for May election, and there will be a few contested races in our area.

Taylor

Four candidates will vie for the At-large seat on the Taylor City Council. Incumbent Dwayne Ariola will be challenged for his seat by Janetta McCoy, Rick Von Pfeil and Sandra Odilia Wolff.

For the Taylor Independent School District board, Lisa Baum will challenge Trustee Jim Buzan for the at-large seat and Place 1 Trustee Shorty Mitchell is unchallenged.

Granger

For the city of Granger, Mayor Monica Stojanik, council members Rosie Sweeting and Lee Weaver have all filed to run again.

For the Granger Independent School District, five people have filed for the atlarge seats, including Board President Daryl Stefek, Board Secretary Sandra Carpenter, Peter Reese, Jason Huf and Josh Richter.

Thrall

At the city of Thrall, Fernando Rodriguez will run against Commissioner Anja Martin for her seat and Mayor Troy Marks’ seat is unchallenged, per city officials.

For the Thrall Independent School District, Board President Bryan Holubec and Wesley Grisham will run unopposed.

Hutto

Five candidates have filed to run for three places on the Hutto City Council. For Place 1, Brian Thompson will compete against Robin Sutton. Nicole Calderone will be challenged by Peter Gordon for the Place 4 seat.

In the Hutto Independent School District, two at-large seats are up for grabs, which are currently held by Felix Chavez and Shara Turner. So far, only Turner and Chavez have filed to run again, according to Hutto ISD. At press time, no information had been released about additional filings at Hutto ISD.
