Annexation efforts fuel fire fight

BEYERSVILLE – A petition to annex the area served by Avery-Pickett Volunteer Fire Department (APVFD) into Williamson County Emergency Services District 10 has been filed and accepted by the county. On May 6, residents will be able to vote on whether to accept the annexation.

Lady Hippos even up district record with two wins

The Hutto Hippos varsity girls’ basketball team won their first two district games of the season and evened up their record at 2-2. After a 0-2 start to district play, the Lady Hippos defeated the Temple Wildcats and the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs.

Lions ground Eagles

The Granger Lions varsity boys’ basketball team picked up a big win on their home court against the Valley Mills Eagles. The Lions defeated the Eagles 54-50, picking up their third win of the season and gaining some momentum before resuming their district schedule.

MLK Day march returns

For the first time since 2020, the city of Taylor will host a its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day march Monday, Jan. 16. The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Dickey-Givens Community Center and ends at Heritage Square where a program begins at 10 a.m. See Sunday’s paper for more details.
