Christmas homes tour returns

The Taylor Conservation and Heritage Society is delighted to announce the return of the Christmas Homes Tour after a four-year absence. The homes tour will be held Saturday Dec. 3 and Sunday Dec. 4. This year’s event will showcase four of Taylor’s most historic homes and one church. The homes on the tour are the Calla Lily Inn, Pecan Manor Bed and Breakfast, Taylor Mansion and West Mansion. The tour will also include St. James Episcopal Church.

HUTTO – The Hutto Education Foundation helped boost classrooms in Hutto ISD through grants last week. A total of $122,000 was awarded to teachers who will spend the funds on innovative ideas to help educate students.

Schools address lessons on violence

Dating violence, family violence, child abuse and sex trafficking can be difficult for parents to discuss. Texas Senate Bill 9, which was passed in 2021, allows parents to decide whether their children should learn about those topics in school. Under SB9 all Texas schools are required to cover the controversial subjects, but if a parent does not actively opt-in to the program, their student will not be taught the curriculum.

Stat leaders from around the area

Eight weeks into the season players from around the area have made their mark on the stat sheet in a big way. Looking at three offensive stats, passing, rushing and receiving, and three defensive stats, tackles, sacks and interceptions, there are several players from each of the five teams around the area that are top-10 and even top five in those categories.

Rotary Club’s Pies in the face to fight polio

Several community leaders in Taylor will be getting their faces smeared with whipped cream Thursday evening to fight a deadly disease on stage at Heritage Square Park. During the intermission of the Music on Main Concert tomorrow night, at around 6:45 p.m., at Heritage Square, George Qualley, senior pastor at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Deborah Parker of Citizens National Bank, Connie Zycha of Austin Telco Federal Credit Union, Tia Rae Stone, president and chief executive officer of Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce, and District 4 Council Member Robert Garcia will be taking a pie to the face to raise money to fight polio.
