Fees to rise in FY 23

The cost of living is going up, and the City of Taylor’s new budget will likely reflect that through increased revenues from higher property values as well as higher fees for utilities, such as water and sewer.

City targets street work

Help is on the way for deteriorating streets and roadways in Taylor. For fiscal year 2022-23, citizens can expect to see new employees for street maintenance, a significant effort to address maintenance and repairs of streets in serious condition, as well as milling and overlay and other enhancements to some major roads in town, city officials said.

Taylor still remembers 9/11 fallen

For the 20th straight year, the Taylor Fire Department will host a solemn tribute to the fallen heroes who died in the tragedy on Sept. 11, 2001 The Patriot Day Memorial March will begin at 7 p.m. this Sunday at Seventh and Davis streets and will continue down Main Street to Heritage Square for a program. Citizens will line the street to observe the procession, which will include fire, police, military and emergency service personnel from Taylor, as well from departments all over Central Texas, including Jarrell, Lake Travis, Elgin, Coupland, Ranger and Weir. “We are very honored that we are able to continue this remembrance march every year,” said Assistant Fire Chief Bobby Copeland.

Mayor Brandt Rydell to pass the torch on ghost tour

With Taylor’s economic star shining so brightly, Mayor Brandt Rydell’s hands are pretty full these days, so he’s taking a popular ghost-tour that he has led for years off his plate. Rydell, who is also the vice president of the Taylor Conservation and Heritage Society, and who has spearheaded the Haunted Taylor: History, Mystery, and Murder Tour since 2016, will be handing off the responsibility to other society members for this year’s fundraiser.
