The Taylor Lady Ducks have posted a very solid and respectable 3-1 record in district so far this season and with that comes players ranking in the top 10 of statistical categories.
The Lady Ducks had seven players in the top 10 as far as points, assists, rebounds, steals and even blocks.
Sophia Fisher has been the top scorer for the Lady Ducks this season, averaging 11.2 points a game, which earned her second place in the district for points. Close behind Fisher is Ansley Reed who averages 10.0 points a game this season which is good enough to be ranked the third-best scorer in the district.
But the accolades do not stop there because Aliyana Chavis, Kionayh Rivers and Aubriana Alderete found themselves ranked in 7th, 8th and 9th place in scoring, while averaging 6.3 points per game, 5.8 points per game and 4.8 points per game respectively.
Moving on to assists, the Lady Ducks top facilitator so far this season has been Fisher, who averages 2.1 assists a game, which earned her third place in the district for assists. Once again, Reed is close behind in 4th place, averaging 2.0 assists a game.
The Lady Ducks were exclusively in 7th –10th place for assists with Rivers, Molli Kennick, Chavis and Alderete taking those spots in that order. Rivers averages 1.4 assists a game, Kennick averages 1.1 assists, Chavis averages 1.0 assists and Alderete averages 0.8 assists a game for the Lady Ducks.
Now on to rebounds. The Lady Ducks look to their sophomore center to dominate the glass, and she has been. Rivers is currently leading the district with 7.5 rebounds a game with a familiar name not too far behind her.
Reed slots into 4th place for rebounds in the district as she hauls in an average of 5.0 rebounds a game. Chavis is right behind Reed in 5th place, averaging 4.9 rebounds, with Fisher and Alderete coming in 7th and 10th place, averaging 4.6 and 3.4 rebounds a game respectively.
The Lady Ducks have shown they have a defense that can and will take the ball away when given the opportunity, and the steals category reflects that. The same six Lady Ducks who were top 10 in assists were also top 10 in steals showing that their defense should not be taken lightly.
Reed and Fisher are currently leaders for the Lady Ducks when it comes to steals, averaging 2.4 steals a game ranking them 4th and 5th in the district respectively. Once again 7th –10th place are dominated by the Lady Ducks with Chavis, Alderete, Rivers and Kennick occupying those spots.
Chavis and Alderete are averaging 1.7 steals a game each, while Rivers is averaging 1.6 steals a game and Kennick is averaging 1.2 steals.
Lastly is the category of blocks where Rivers flexes her defensive muscles again. Rivers is ranked 1st in the district, averaging 1.1 blocks a game. Reed again was too far behind, averaging 1.0 blocks a game, earning her second place.
Chavis and Fisher were also in the top 10, being ranked 4th and 8th in the district averaging 0.5 and 0.2 blocks a game. The Lady Ducks also had Charitee Franklin crack the top 10 with 0.2 blocks earning her 7th place.
Looking at the stats, it is easy to see that the Lady Ducks have a very talented starting five on both sides of the floor. Reed stands out the most though because she was not only ranked in the top 10 in every category, but she’s top 5 in all the categories as well.
Lady Ducks’ head coach Lawrence Bailey has said Reed is important to his team’s growth because of her veteran leadership. Now there’s statistical proof of what she brings to the team, along with her leadership value.
Rivers is another standout as she leads the district in rebounds and blocks as a sophomore. Bailey said he coaches Rivers extremely hard because he sees her potential. Rivers is a great player and said she still has not shown people everything that she can do.
The Lady Ducks are starting to roll and gain momentum at the right time this season, with their next matchup coming on Tuesday, Jan. 10, when they take on Caldwell at the Duck Pond where they will look to continue their dominant run.
