Shining a light to honor and remember

The new Century Club hosted its second annual Luminaries on the Square Friday, April 14, at Heritage Square in Taylor. The event was an opportunity to recognize, honor and remember those who have been impacted by cancer. This was also a fundraiser hosted by the New Century Club for the American Cancer Society. People purchased luminaria bags to decorate for their loved ones. During the lminaria ceremony, the bags had lights in them and a march around the park was led by the longest living cancer survivor.

City cleans up April 29; two locations designated for drop off

The city of Taylor will hold a Citywide Spring Clean Up Saturday, April 29, to give citizens the opportunity to drop off unwanted items that are otherwise too bulky to dispose of. Collections will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two locations, 1300 Welch St. and 1424 N. Main St.

Jennifer Tobler has devoted all twenty-two years of her career at Naomi Pasemann Elementary School, teaching first and second grade. Her mother recently retired from education, and she alone inspired Tobler to not only teach, but to teach from the heart.

Hutto Mayor suggests lower speed limits

HUTTO – Citing the fact that many residents come from areas with more restrictive speed limits, Mayor Mike Snyder spoke to Texas Department of Transportation representatives about lowering speed limits on State Highway 79. He suggested new residents used to slower speeds may misjudge how fast traffic is coming at them, leading to crashes.

Mania season

The Taylor Educational Enrichment (TEE) Foundation awarded 18 grants to 15 teachers totaling $27,221.99 during their annual Mallard Mania event. The celebratory parade led by the Taylor High School drum line and cheerleaders traveled through the hallways of four campuses to present giant checks to excited recipients and their students.
