County offers free fraud alert program

GEORGETOWN – The Williamson County Clerk’s Office offers a way for residents to better protect their homes or businesses from property fraud. The Property Fraud Alert program is a notification service that alerts subscribers if a document with their name on it is submitted to the County Clerk Recording Office.

Hutto green lights roundabout at FM 1660, County Road 137

HUTTO – In a move that went counter to a public opinion poll the city performed, Hutto council members gave the go-ahead for construction of a roundabout at the intersection of FM 1660 and County Road 137. Only newly-elected council member Brian Thompson voted against the roundabout at the May 18 meeting.

Quick action by firefighters is being credited for the rescue of two residents trapped on a balcony after a blaze ripped through the upper floor of the Burnett Place Apartments Monday. No injuries were reported in the fire at 405 Sloan St., according to the Taylor Fire Department.

WCRTA book project promotes reading and literacy

The Children’s Book Project is one of the best loved events of the Williamson County Retired Teachers Association. One of the main goals of this project is to promote the love of reading and literacy in young children. One way to accomplish this is to present books to the children for them to keep and take home. This year the group gave books to 519 children in various kindergarten classes in Williamson County.
