Public hearing for LDC Thursday

Residents can make their voices heard Thursday night on the proposed Land Development Code, which will overhaul zoning for the entire city to promote infill development and walkable neighborhoods.

At the regular meeting of the Taylor City Council Oct. 26, members of the public are invited to attend the first of two public hearings on the draft LDC pertaining to zoning, subdivision and signs, which is expected to be adopted by city leaders Nov. 9.

“The adoption of the new Land Development Code is the culmination of a process that began in January 2022 immediately following the adoption of the Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan,” city officials said. “The Land Development Code is the vehicle to implement the Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan which was unanimously approved in November 2021.”

The LDC, which was unanimously approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission Oct. 10, will move the city from traditional zoning into different place types, most of which will allow for more intensive development, including eliminating lot minimums and allowing a variety of structures on different parcels — from accessory dwelling units to duplexes, and more.

In other business, at the meeting city leaders will:

• Hear a presentation from Williamson County Commissioner Russ Boles, Senior Director of Infrastructure Bob Daigh and Parks Director Russell Fishbeck about the county’s upcoming bond election Nov. 7.

• Hold a separate public hearing for individual citizens requesting to change the designated place type zoning districts for their properties.

• Receive and discuss presentation from the city’s financial advisor on the proposed Park 79 Commerce Center Public Improvement District.

• Hold a public hearing to rezone approximately two acres of land at 3609 E. Fourth St. from General Business District (B-2) to Light Industrial District (M-1) to allow for sales of manufactured homes and a model homes park.

The Taylor City Council regularly meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St. in Taylor. Agendas and live broadcasts are available at http:// www.taylortx.gov.
