COUPLAND – Many communities hold their National Night Out events in the fall, however, Coupland continues the tradition of hosting the event in August. NNO will be held on the grounds of Coupland’s historic Depot. Depot Coordinator Barbara Piper says, “National Night Out is a national recognition and one we observe each first Tuesday in August.

This year’s observance will be Tuesday, Aug.

1. The Coupland Civic Organization will be providing a fun feast of hot dogs with all of the trimmings, chips, homemade cookies and nice cool water.”

Piper continues, “Bring a lawn chair and come and celebrate with us. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. We always look forward to hearing from Matt Kreidel of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department and Fire Chief John Roulston-Bates.”

A presentation will be given by the Pct. 4 Constable’s office and the new pastor at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland, Pastor Scott Wasdin.

At the June 26, CCO meeting, held in the Fellowship Hall of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland, residents heard a presentation by retired Hollywood cameraman Cal Roberts. He worked at Warner Brothers for 40 years, and his films include Speed, Top Gun, Lethal Weapon, Gran Torino and Jurassic Park. He has worked with stars such as Tom Cruise and Clint Eastwood and with Steven Spielberg.

Before the program, the CCO hosted a sandwich supper with homemade cookies.

Coupland School As covered in previous columns, Coupland Independent School District is losing Superintendent Tammy Brinkman. On June 27, she resigned, which was shortly after bonds passed May 6 to build a Coupland Middle School.

CCO President Susan Schmidt says, “Mrs.

Brinkman was the spokesperson for the school bond. With her expertise and calm demeanor, she was able to handle any tough questions with knowledge and grace.

Mrs. Brinkman was respected by the majority of her teachers and staff as well as members of the community.”

At a special school board meeting May 15, there was a standing-roomonly crowd, and all of the speakers who addressed the board were in favor of retaining Brinkman as superintendent.

Schmidt added, “The big question is why did Mrs. Brinkman resign?

She has stated she did not know why she was receiving pressure to resign.

School board members have been silent on this matter with some board members not knowing themselves.”
