Lady Lions roll over Tigerettes

The Lady Lions were too much for the Tigerettes to overcome in Friday night’s district rivalry game.

Montana Moore scored 18 points and Clarissa Miller added 10 to lead the Granger Lady Lions (9-12 overall, 2-1 District 25-2A) to a 50-29 rout of the Thrall Tigerettes (5-20, 1-2).

Granger got off to a fast start, racing out to a 13-4 first-quarter lead. Moore was able to use her height advantage to tally six points in the opening period.  Thrall struggled to control Moore down low throughout the game.

The Lady Lions continued their strong offensive showing into the second period. Miller scored a pair of fast-break baskets, the second of which put Granger up 22-10 with just under a minute to play in the first half. On Thrall’s end of the court, Ashlyn Jarosek, who led the Tigerettes with 11 points, and Aubrie Henderson, each scored from the field.  Granger led 24-12 at the half.

Granger, who finished the night shooting 38 percent from the field, hit for 16 in the third quarter, including three from behind the three-point arch.  For Thrall, the Tigerettes had their best scoring quarter in the third, adding 10 points to their total.  Jarek, Miranda Richter, and Rachel Trussell each scored from the field for Thrall in the period. Granger outscored the Tigerettes 10-7 over the final period to seal the win.

For the game, Granger outscored the Tigerettes 25-12 off turnovers and outrebounded Thrall 56-33.  The Lady Lions were also able to limit the Tigerettes to just 15 percent shooting from the field.

Thrall was in Thorndale Tuesday night, while the Lady Lions traveled to Hearne.
