Edward Harold Johnson Jr.

He was born April 14, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Edward H. Johnson Sr. and Elizabeth Irene Bloxom-Johnson. Ed graduated from Taylor High School in 1965, and he joined the Army after he graduated.
His service included two-and-a-half tours in Vietnam before returning home. While adjusting to civilian life, he met Sharon Pool and after a whirlwind romance, they married on Feb. 7, 1970.
He then joined the Coast Guard and served for four years before transferring to active duty in the Texas National Guard. In all, he served an honorable 26 years of Active Duty.
He then transitioned into teaching Automotive Tech in Taylor High School until his teaching retirement. He also served the community on the St. Paul Lutheran School Board and later as a substitute teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School and on St. Mary’s School Advisory Board.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Elizabeth, sister Irene (Johnson) Sanford and brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Sanford. Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years Sharon Johnson; his son, Matthew Scott Johnson and his wife Stephanie of Kosse; his daughter Laura Janek and her husband Michael Janek Sr. of Taylor; grandchildren CariDee Janek, Michael Janek Jr., Sean Kruse, and Bradlee Johnson.
Edward also leaves behind extended family, and numerous lifelong friends.
Memorials may be made to St, Mary’s Catholic School, Taylor Texas.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday March 21, at Providence Funeral Home Taylor, Texas, and with graveside services at 2 p.m. on Saturday March 22, at Taylor City Cemetery.
