Delores Catherine Kubala

Delores Catherine Kubala, 89, of Taylor, Texas, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024.

Delores was born in Taylor on Oct. 1, 1935 to the late Gus and Mildred (Filla) Hodon. She graduated from Taylor High School in 1954. She married dad, Leroy Kubala, on June 27, 1954, and they were married for 53 years before his passing in 2007.

Mom worked in various positions at Taylor Independent School District. Upon her retirement, she continued to sew and embroider towels and pillowcases for the grandkids with their names on them. She even made some for their friends, too. Mom sewed all of our clothes growing up and continued to do our alterations whenever we needed. She was an amazing cook, and whenever she would try out a new recipe and ask Dad if he liked it, he politely would say, “You don’t have to make it again!”

The grandkids and great-grandkids had their turn in the kitchen with their Granny. They each had their spot to roll out and cut out cookies and bake them.

Of course, when it came time to decorate them, there was a lot of icing and sprinkles everywhere. And spending the night was also fun, sleeping on the floor in the living room with pillows and blankets everywhere.

Mom and Dad supported the grandkids in the activities that they were involved in. Mom continued that love and support when the greatgrandkids came along.

Delores was an active member of the Taylor Brethren Church, where she served as a member of the local Christian Sisters, the Christian Sister Union and choir.

She was also a member of Committee Bible Study, The New Century Club, Relay for Life, Taylor Garden Club and Beyersville SPJST Lodge #48.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leroy, sister, Alice Labaj and brother, Gus Hodon.

Among those who mourn her passing are her daughters Debbie Grimm and husband Teddy, Becky Ruzicka and husband Marcel; grandchildren Heath Grimm and wife Amy, Heather Knapek and husband Jacob, Heidi Holliman and husband Robert and Hailey Camden and husband Leo; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Brynlee and Hagen Grimm, Hunter Holliman and Adeline Camden; brother- in-law Sidney Kubala; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct.

23, 2024 at the Taylor Brethren Church with visitation, followed by the service. The Rev.

James Hejl officiated.

Burial was at the Taylor City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the Taylor Brethren Church, P.O.

Box 351 Taylor, Texas 76574 or to the Hus School Encampment, 1304 T.H. Johnson Dr., Taylor, Texas 76574.

The family would like to thank the staff at SPJST Assisted Living and SPJST Skilled Nursing for all their love and care they gave to her. And a very special thank you to Janie Whitley, who helped us through this process and for her tender love and care she shared with mom was incredible.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Heath Grimm, Heather Knapek, Heidi Holliman and Hailey Camden and great-grandchildren, Gracie, Brynlee and Hagen Grimm, Hunter Holliman and Adeline Camden.

Pallbearers who served were Wayne Kubala, Gordon Urbanek, Jeff Berger, James Marek, Buddy Michna and Terry Zrubek.
