Douglas Shay
Douglas was born in Clarion, Pennsylvania, to Marjorie and Robert Shay. Douglas was a fun-loving, adventurous child. He loved to take things apart and put them back together again. He loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles, eating pizza and Chinese food and going to Sirloin Stockade.
He was very passionate about being outdoors, especially with his lawn company. He loved every holiday. Christmas was his favorite. He would dress as Santa Claus every year for the grandchildren. He was always singing the Barney song to them, “I Love You.” He loved his family and friends. He loved going to Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry and, most of all, Circleville Store for food and games.
In 1998, he met the love of his life, Esperanza (Hopey), at Carpenters Inc. where they were both employed. They became Christians of their Catholic faith at Our Lady of Guadalupe, where they were married May 28, 2011.
Douglas was preceded in death by his mother and father.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son Tommy Shay; daughter Brandy Martin; son-inlaw Jim (Jaime) Martin; stepchildren Santos, Bertha and Juan; brothers Randy and Robert Shay; sister Babette Cummings; nephew Joshua Cummings; cousins Philip Thomas, Linda Thomas Wyant and Cheryl Gehring.
A memorial service is 10 a.m. Sept. 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 111 W. Rio Grande St., Taylor.
