Angeline Lucile Conn Mokry
She attended school in Granger and graduated with a scholarship to a business college in Austin. While she was in high school, she was also named Poppy Queen and rode in a parade as such. After graduation, she moved to Austin to attend the business college and in order to stay in Austin while at the school, she lived with a family and helped with cooking and watching their children to cover her room and board.
She went on to hold several executive secretary positions during her career, mainly with the city of Austin. She worked for one of the assistant city managers for several years. She was proud of her accomplishments and the high-ranking officials she worked for.
She met the love of her life, Gilbert Wesley Mokry Sr., while they were both living in Granger. Once she graduated from business college, she and Gilbert were married on May 10, 1958, and settled in Taylor, Texas.
Lucy and Gilbert had four children and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents Henry Foy Conn and Nellie Mae Conn; her sister Martha (Connie) Goolsby and spouse Woodrow; brother Charles Foy Conn; brother Thomas Robert Conn Sr. and spouse Irene; brother Ramon Novarro Conn and spouse Marie; brother Jerry Conn; and sister Mary Lou Lafler and spouse Bill Ray.
Survivors include her sisters Irene Fay Alexander and spouse Marvin Wayne; and Shirley Ann Creppon and spouse James Douglas. She is also survived by her children Gilbert W. Mokry Jr. and spouse Patricia; Lou Ann Mokry; Gail Simonson and spouse James; and Connie Pfau and spouse Jon.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Brandi Barnwell and spouse Lee; Michelle Beckermann and spouse Chris and their sons Brandt and Christian; Melissa Mokry and fiancé Brandon Leslie; Geoffrey Susan and spouse Hanah Mae and their daughter Haillaine; Melissa Revier and spouse Scott and their children Brettlyn and Bryden; Chelsea Bice and spouse Dillon and their sons Jordan and Austin; Macon Simonson and spouse Lauren and their daughters Cami, Aila and Talia (Bonnie); and Cory Simonson and spouse Carlos.
She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucy loved to play bingo, Phase 10 and dominoes. She also enjoyed visiting casinos with family and friends.
A visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos G. Parker Blvd. N.W. in Taylor, followed by a rosary.
A funeral service is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 408 Washburn St. in Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Geoffrey Susan, Cory Simonson, Macon Simonson, Clint Mokry, Scott Creppon and Wesley Creppon.
A gathering of friends and family will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
