Delores Jean Cavanaugh-Hennington
She was born Oct. 31, 1945.
She is the beloved daughter of the late Lorace Cavanaugh Sr., and John and Irene (Aycox) Simmons of Cameron. Delores is the eldest of four siblings, Brenda Lovelady, Lorace Cavanaugh Jr. and Lorraine Dace.
She graduated as Salutatorian from O.J.
Thomas in Cameron. She continued her education at Paul Quinn College receiving a bachelor’s of science in biology. She went on to teach reading at Taylor Middle School for over 30 years, until her retirement, and was known for her passion for education and her commitment to her students.
Sis. Hennington was God-fearing and professed a belief in Christ by getting baptized at an early age at the Cameron Grove Baptist Church in Cameron. She served in three local churches — The First Baptist Church, New Pear Valley Church and Mt. Calvary Church — the entire time her health allowed her. She was known as a leader and a pillar in the community who always wanted to volunteer and help where needed.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading, writing, engaging in Bible study and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Delores will be deeply missed, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Lorace Cavanaugh Sr., and John and Irene (Aycox) Simmons; and her sisters, Brenda Lovelady and Lorace Cavanaugh Jr.
Delores is survived by her loving children, Sheila Winn, Greg Davis and April Murphy; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at Pentecostal Jerusalem Church, 908 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. In Taylor.
