His several careers included Terminix, the Hemisfair Plaza in San Antonio, including Hemisfair Arena and the Tower of the Americas, Texas Restaurant Assoc., Texas Hotel/Motel Assoc. and retired from the Austin Convention Center in 2003.

Gene was very active in his Church, the Fellowship of the Parks located in North Fort Worth.

Gene was preceded in death by his grandmother, Velma Hill; his father, Elmer Dee Smith; mother, Mary Detwiler; his sister, Diane Kallus; and his brothers, Gaylon and Jimmy.

He is survived by siblings, Vicki, Butch and Linda; six children, Lori, Tom, Jay, Julie, Annette and Mike; nine grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to the Tarrant Area Food Bank or your local food bank or pantry.
