John Gordon Drake, 45, of Taylor, passed away April 3, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness and generosity.

John Gordon Drake, 45, of Taylor, passed away April 3, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness and generosity. John was born to Jimmy and Rene Drake Jan. 24, 1979, in Temple. He grew up in Little River Academy and pursued higher education at McLennan Community College.

On Sept. 19, 2009, John married the love of his life, Lori Downey, in Lockhart. Together, they built a beautiful life in Taylor, where they raised their two beloved daughters.

Professionally, John was a dedicated employee at Iteris in Round Rock, where he applied himself diligently. His commitment and diligence were evident in every task he undertook.

John had a zest for life and found joy in various activities including hunting, fishing and participating in obstacle races. He had a passion for his family and friends, always eager to spend quality time with them and also for using his hands to build things for those he loved.

John was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he found fulfillment in serving in the men’s ministry and ensuring the safety of his church community as part of the church security team.

Known for his compassionate nature, John was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was constructing a wheelchair ramp for a neighbor or assisting with tree cutting and cleanup, he embodied the spirit of generosity.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Theola Vybiral, Johnny Gordon Drake, Paul and Bernice Latozke and Pearl and Harry Downey.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lori Drake; adoring daughters, Carli and Anneson Drake; son-in-law, Sergio Vargas; beloved granddaughters, Elia and Ava Vargas; devoted parents, James “Jimmy” and Rene Drake; in-laws Ralph and Darlene Downey; brother, Anthony Drake and his family Michelle, Hannah and Cheyanne; brother-in-law, Michael Snoozy and his family Terasa, Caleb, Kieran and Keegan; and his grandmother, Lorraine Drake.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 2500 Mallard Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blue Bonnet Trail or Shepard’s Heart, two causes that were dear to John’s heart.

John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
