Matthew Efram De Hoyos, of Taylor, passed away March 28, 2024, in Austin, under the care of Austin Hospice at St. David’s South Hospital after receiving exemplary care from Dr. Ramakrishnan and his team at St. David’s Cancer Clinic.

Matthew was born Sept. 28, 1958, to Pete and Josephine De Hoyos in Baytown. He was an ExxonMobil-Baytown retiree.

Some of Matt’s fondest childhood memories include his siblings Mike, Mark and Monica playing sports, hiding from the church bus and dodging mosquitos in La Isla.

Matt loved sports and could accurately recount details of historical games for both professional and local Baytown teams. Most of all, Matt loved his family and took pride in his sons and grandkids, Aven and Dylan De Hoyos.

He also loved his Legacy Early College High School family and enjoyed his retirement job there with the students and faculty.

Matt was predeceased by his parents Josephine and Pete De Hoyos.

He is survived by his wife, Renee Runnels De Hoyos; sons, Christopher (Rebecca Carey), Peairson De Hoyos and Marshall Cooke; and Chris’s mother, Sylvia Ramon De Hoyos.

The family will gather to remember Matt from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Pecan Manor, 819 Hackberry St. in Taylor.

Mr De Hoyos was the best teacher/aid and always made me look forward to going to school. He talked to friends and i about music and his favorite pastimes. He will be dearly missed.
