Infrastructure concerns for Taylor water and sewer needs will be discussed Tuesday.

On Aug. 2, the Taylor City Council will hold a workshop on current and future needs in those regards. Residents are invited to attend the public meeting.

The council will discuss long-term usage and musts for the city, existing and future conditions of the water and sewer system, future water supply and associated risk and redundancy measures.

“During that meeting, we will address some of these concerns that have been brought up,” said Jim Gray, public works director, when talking about some specific concerns related to the planned Hilltop Estates neighborhood in south Taylor. “What they’re talking about are real issues, but we will bring you some solutions to that when we meet next Tuesday night.”

A factor of Tuesday’s meeting is the city’s Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan, which is meant to address development, transportation, utilities and other capital improvements. The document guides the municipality with a vision, goals, objectives and actions deemed necessary to direct the city’s long-range growth and development.

The plan was adopted in Nov. 18, 2021, which was days before construction of a Samsung Austin Semiconductor plant in Taylor was announced. Since then, water and sewer master plan drafts have been amended to align with the comprehensive Plan.

Tuesday’s council meeting is at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St., in the council chamber. Those wishing to address the council have a three-minute limit and must sign up by 5:45 p.m.

The council agenda and live video stream of the meeting can be found at http://www.taylortx.gov.

HILLTOP ESTATES

Last Thursday, July 28, the Council held a public hearing and introduced an ordinance to rezone approximately 27.89 acres addressed as 1910 CR 452, off of Old Coupland Road and Southwood Hills Drive, from a single-family residential district to the same district but with a residential planned development overlay.

Concerns about drainage, water pressure, increased adjacent road usage and more were brought up by Raymond Hernandez during the public hearing. Public Works Director Jim Gray and others discussed the issues as well as how Tuesday’s meeting might help answer questions.
