GEORGETOWN - Williamson County has found a temporary solution for an elections administrator ahead of November’s bond election.
Judith Ritchie, who currently serves as the county’s deputy elections administrator, was appointed to be the interim elections administrator at the Election Commission meeting Aug. 15. Ritchie will serve until the Commission finds a permanent solution.
The need for a replacement comes after former elections administrator Chris Davis resigned last week.
The county will hold a nearly $900 million bond election Nov. 7.
“I have confidence in Judith (Ritchie) and the Elections department, and I have faith that she will uphold the integrity of the elections process to ensure it is fair and honest,” said County Judge Bill Gravell, who serves as the chair of the Election Commission.
Ritchie is welcome to apply for the permanent elections administrator position, but was also advised by the Commission that her appointment to this position is based on the expectation that she will step down and resume her role as deputy elections administrator should someone else be selected.
Any elections administrator, even one intended to be appointed as a temporary basis, must meet all of the statutory requirements for elections administrators, including the posting of a bond set by the Commissioners Court.
“I am excited to lead the Elections team and to continue to conduct fair and transparent elections for Williamson County,” Ritchie said.
Ritchie has spent two and a half years with the county. She worked for Travis County and non-profits.
