Church helping special needs kids

A local church wants the community’s help in helping a special population at Taylor Independent School District. Crossroads Assembly of God is working with Taylor ISD’s John Matthews to purchase several items for the special needs kids at the school “We have bought about $800 worth of items for the kids,” said Shane Allen, Crossroads pastor, “but there are more items to purchase and we are out of funds for the project.

Schools get extra security

Police and sheriff’s officers were more visible at local schools in the wake of a Texas tragedy this week. Superintendents at Taylor and Hutto independent school districts updated their communities on law enforcement presence on their grounds as each district finished their final week of the 2021-22 school year.

SAMSUNG’S NEXT STEP

Taylor Independent School District has a new tax increment reinvestment zone that could be used for Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s new facility coming to Taylor. On May 24, Taylor ISD’s board of trustees held a public hearing and then approved with a 6-0 vote with board president Marco Ortiz’s abstention on the creation of a reinvestment zone and applications from Samsung for agreements for an appraised value limitation.

Student removed at TMS

Per protocol, a student was removed from a Taylor Independent School District campus for a threatening comment. On Wednesday, May 25, Taylor Middle School Principal Chelsey sent a letter to families informing them of the incident.

Memorial Day, pool opening this weekend

Summer vibes heat up this weekend in Murphy Park when pool gates open and the community salutes the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our nation. The Doris Roznovak Aquatic Center begins pool season in Murphy Park Saturday, May 28.
