Ducks shut out versus Salado

The Taylor Ducks varsity baseball team was held scoreless in a 2-0 loss to Salado on Tuesday, April 22, as the offense managed just one hit in 16 at-bats.

Despite the defeat, junior Connor Woods delivered a solid performance on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing two runs while recording one strikeout. Taylor’s lone hit came in the bottom of the first inning when senior Xavier Juarez singled, but the Ducks were unable to bring him home.

Both teams went scoreless in the second before Salado took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-RBI single. Taylor generated a base runner in the bottom half of the inning when senior Mason Sunvision drew a walk, but a strikeout ended the frame.

Woods continued to battle despite the lack of run support, keeping the Ducks within striking distance the rest of the way. However, Taylor was unable to capitalize, going scoreless for the third time this season.

With the loss, Taylor dropped to 5-6 in district play as its postseason hopes dimmed. The Ducks closed out the series — and the regular season — against Salado on Friday, April 25, with their playoff chances hanging in the balance.
