Latest incident in Hutto

Attempted kidnappings in three Williamson County cities, including Hutto, have local law-enforcement agencies putting residents on alert.

The latest incident took place last week in Hutto’s Riverwalk subdivision and involved an attempt to snatch a child.

No arrests are reported, but investigators have released a sketch of a potential suspect.

According to the Hutto Police Department, two men in a white Ford Transit van approached a child in the subdivision, and one of the men tried to grab the youngster. The child provided a detailed description of one suspect to a Department of Public Safety forensic imaging specialist.

The child described a Hispanic male with sleeve tattoos on his arms, multiple piercings, three gold teeth and dark hair with blonde or white streaks.

“Parents are encouraged to have conversations with their children about safety precautions, and to be aware of their surroundings at all times,” police said in a press release.

Other attempted kidnappings took place in Leander and Round Rock.

Although Taylor officers have not had any reports of such offenses, Commander Joseph Branson offered his take on the situation.

“We want to be transparent and let Taylor residents know what’s been happening around the county,” Branson said. “We want to do everything we can to let the residents know that we’re available 24-7. If you see anything uneasy, don’t hesitate to give the police a call.”

Hutto officers ask anyone with knowledge of the episodes to call 512846-2200 or email HuttoCrimeTips@huttotx.
