LEXINGTON — The Thrall Tigers varsity baseball team pulled out another close win, edging the Lexington Eagles, 6-5, on Friday, April 11, thanks to a wild pitch that allowed senior Maverick McAllister to score the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
Thrall jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after sophomore Jack Gustafson delivered a two-run single. Lexington responded in the bottom half, plating a run on a groundout to make it 2-1.
The Tigers extended their lead to 3-1 in the second inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk. They added another run in the third and one more in the fourth, capitalizing on another walk and a defensive error to stretch the lead to 5-1.
The Eagles rallied in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 5-5 after scoring four runs on two singles and a double.
Thrall answered in the top of the sixth. McAllister reached base on a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third. He came home moments later on a wild pitch, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning run.
McAllister also started on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing five runs and striking out 11. Gustafson came in to record the final two outs and secure the win.
With the victory, the Tigers improved to 17-4-1 overall and 5-3 in district play. They faced Rockdale on Tuesday, April 15, and will close out the series at home on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.
