LAMPASAS — Freshman Payton Burrow delivered in the clutch to help lift the Taylor Lady Ducks to a thrilling 9-8 road victory over the Lampasas Badgers on Tuesday night.

Burrow went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to extend Taylor’s lead to 9-5.

The Lady Ducks struck first, plating a run in the top of the first on a groundout. Taylor’s defense made quick work of the Badgers in the bottom half, retiring the side in order.

Freshman Dianellie Frausto extended the lead to 3-0 in the second with a two-RBI single. Lampasas responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on a groundout to cut the lead to 3-1.

Burrow pushed the lead back to three in the third, knocking an RBI single to make it 4-1. The Badgers answered again with an RBI double in the bottom of the frame, trimming the deficit to 4-2.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Lampasas tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth, capitalizing on an error and a sacrifice fly. The Lady Ducks went down in order in the sixth, and the Badgers took their first lead of the game in the bottom half, scoring on another Taylor error to make it 5-4.

Down to their final three outs, the Lady Ducks mounted a fiverun rally in the seventh. Sophomores Anaih Arroyo and Enicia Quintanilla hit backto- back RBI singles to give Taylor a 6-5 lead. Another run scored on a groundout before Burrow launched her two-run shot over the fence, extending the lead to 9-5.

Lampasas didn’t go quietly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double and a two-run homer. But two flyouts sealed the win for Taylor.

The Lady Ducks improved to 6-13 overall and 2-7 in district play. They returned to action Friday, April 11, on the road against Jarrell.
