17 area athletes punch tickets to track regionals

East Williamson County will be well represented at regional track and field meets next weekend.

Seventeen athletes finished in the top four of their respective events at area meets on Wednesday or Thursday. One Taylor, 10 Granger and six Thrall athletes qualified for the regional meets, which take place Friday and Saturday at Bullard, Kingsville and Huntsville, respectively.

TAYLOR

Tiana Candee will be the lone Taylor representative at the Region III4A Meet on Friday and Saturday at Bullard High School. Candee finished third in the girls triple jump at the Districts 23-24-4A area meet on Wednesday in Jarrell.

THRALL

Six athletes advanced to the Region III3A Meet Friday and Saturday at Huntsville High School with topfour finishes in the Districts 19-20-3A area meet Wednesday in Fairfield. Sarah Laurence finished second in both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs, while Brynn Leschber took second in the 100meter hurdles.

On the boys’ side, Travis Matthews finished third in the boys long jump, and Landon Gregory took fourth in both the 100 and 200meter runs. Matthews and Gregory also teamed up with Jaden Spence and Chris Kelm on the 4x200-meter relay team that finished fourth.

GRANGER

Granger will have 10 representatives in the Region IV-2A Meet Friday and Saturday at Texas A&M-Kingsville. These athletes recorded top-four finishes at the Districts 27-28-2A area meet Thursday in Flatonia.

Eva Ramirez and Marissa Hall each took home first-place finishes in the 800 run and 100 hurdles, respectively, while the 4x400 relay team of Kendall Welles, Natalie Corona, Carli Cadena, Brooklyn Gaswint took fourth. On the boys’ side, Kye Welles and Caleb Tucker respectively finished third in the 3,200 and 800 runs, while Alexi Montagrino and Ryder Bice had respective fourth-place finishes in the high jump and discus.
