HUTTO — The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity softball team cruised to a 10-0 run-rule victory over Round Rock Westwood on Friday, April 4.

Freshmen pitcher Bailey Kelley and Kaelyn Price led the way, with Kelley tossing five scoreless innings and recording nine strikeouts. Price powered the offense, finishing with a team-high three RBIs.

Hutto set the tone early, retiring the Warriors in order in the top of the first. In the bottom half, the Lady Hippos jumped out to a 2-0 lead with an RBI single from junior M’Kayla Hicks and a bases-loaded walk.

Kelley delivered another 1-2-3 inning in the second, and Hutto extended its lead with consecutive RBI singles from Hicks and senior Makenzie Klos to make it 4-0. Later in the inning, senior Mia Sanchez ripped a two-run triple to clear the bases and stretch the lead to 7-0.

Price capped off the offensive explosion with a three-run home run in the fourth inning, giving Hutto a 10-0 advantage.

After issuing a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth, Kelley struck out the next three batters to seal the run-rule win.

The victory marked Hutto’s fifth district win in its last six games. The Lady Hippos improved to 8-10 overall and 8-4 in district play, currently sitting in third place in the standings.

Hutto looked to stay hot against Manor on Tuesday, April 8, before returning home to face Cedar Ridge on Friday, April 11, at 7 p.m.
