BARTLETT — The Granger Lions varsity baseball team picked up a dominant 14-1 victory over the Bartlett Bulldogs on Friday, April 4.
Trey Castillo led the way on the mound, tossing six innings and allowing just one run while striking out five.
Granger got off to a hot start, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The Lions plated runs on a walk and a two-run double by Chase Selucky to make it 3-0. A groundout and an RBI single from Dayton Knippa capped the inning and extended the lead to 5-0.
Bartlett cut into the deficit with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, but the game remained quiet through the next three innings.
Granger broke the stalemate with a massive eight-run sixth inning. The highlight came on a two-run home run by Caleb Tucker that pushed the lead to 10-1. The Lions added more insurance with an error, an RBI single from Nicholas Blane, and a sacrifice fly to make it 13-1. Granger tacked on one more run to close out the scoring.
With the win, the Lions improved to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in district play. Granger hosted Thorndale on Tuesday, April 8, and will travel to Bremond on Friday, April 11, for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
