Taylor ISD third graders publish books
Third graders at Naomi Pasemann and Main Street Elementary Schools are now published authors, thanks to a partnership with the Taylor Library Foundation.
The Foundation partnered with both schools in sponsoring a writing program that resulted in a published book for each class. Each student contributed to the finished class book.

“There are five classes in each school totaling about two hundred students,” said Patricia Felfe, library foundation volunteer. “Each student has written a poem or story. Writings from each respective class have been compiled into a published book.”
The Library Foundation purchased a paperback book for each student to keep as well as two hardback copies of each book to be placed on library shelves. They also celebrated the accomplishment with a gala at the Taylor Public Library, showcasing for the community the work of these young authors and illustrators.
“This was such a special project,” said Kerri Pierce, Main Street principal. “For a third grader to be able to say, ‘I am a published author. I have a poem in a book in the public library,’ was just amazing. One of our goals is to increase our bond with our community and to increase that engagement. This project was a perfect way to do that.”
“We are so proud to be able to participate and to be able to honor these students,” Felfe added. I think one of the most exciting things about this project is placing two copies of each published book on the public library shelves for people to check-out. You never know, with a little bit of encouragement, this may help start a future author’s career.”
