Ducks fall to Burnet 11-4

The Taylor Ducks varsity baseball team fell 11-4 to the Burnet Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 1, after giving up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, which put the game out of reach.

Taylor went scoreless through the first two innings, while Burnet took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the bottom of the second. The Ducks retired in order in the third but found offensive momentum in the fourth, scoring three runs.

Sophomore Aiden Dimas tied the game with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from senior Trey Stromberg. Sophomore Mason Sunvision capped off the inning with another RBI single, giving Taylor a 3-1 lead.

Burnet responded in the bottom half, cutting the deficit to 3-2 on a sacrifice fly. The Ducks were held scoreless in the fifth, while the Bulldogs regained the lead with a threerun inning, highlighted by an RBI single and a double to go up 5-3.

Taylor trimmed the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the sixth on a fielder’s choice, but Burnet broke the game open in the bottom half, scoring six runs. A solo home run sparked the rally, followed by an RBI single to make it 7-4. The Bulldogs then plated two runs on back-to-back walks before scoring on a fielder’s choice and an error to extend the lead to 11-4.

Junior Connor Woods took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings while allowing five runs and striking out one. sophomore Mario Newman came in for relief but struggled as Burnet’s offense surged.

The Ducks (3-9-2, 1-4 district) closed out their series against Burnet on Friday, April 4, before hosting Gateway Preparatory on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m.
