HUTTO — The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity softball team earned a 3-0 victory over the Round Rock Dragons on Tuesday, April 1.

Freshman pitcher Bailey Kelley pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and recording two strikeouts.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Hippos broke the deadlock in the bottom of the second when senior Jayda Gallegos drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Both offenses were quiet until the fifth, when Hutto extended its lead to 3-0 on back-to-back RBI triples from freshmen Kaelyn Price and senior Mia Sanchez.

Round Rock threatened in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with one out, but two consecutive pop-ups ended the inning. Hutto went scoreless in the bottom half before sealing the win with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Despite collecting just three hits to Round Rock’s four, the Lady Hippos capitalized on scoring opportunities. Hutto improved to 6-10 overall and 6-4 in district play, currently holding fourth place with six games remaining. The Lady Hippos faced McNeil on Friday, April 4, and Round Rock Westwood on Saturday, April 5, before traveling to Manor on Tuesday, April 8, for a 6 p.m. matchup.
