Lions dominate Texas Wind 15-4

GRANGER — The Granger Lions varsity baseball team defeated the Texas Wind Skyhawks 15-4 in five innings on Tuesday, April 1.

Ryder Bice led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Texas Wind took an early 1-0 lead after stealing home in the first inning, but Granger responded in the bottom half when Marcus Martinez stole home to tie the game at 1. The Skyhawks regained the lead in the second, scoring on an error to go up 2-1.

Granger answered with a three-run bottom half, scoring on a hit-bypitch, a fielder’s choice and a walk to take a 4-2 lead. The Lions held Texas Wind scoreless in the third before breaking the game open with an 11-run inning.

Granger loaded the bases with back-to-back singles and a walk before Bice hit a two-run single to make it 6-2. Wyatt Rochner followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-2. The Lions added runs on a basesloaded walk, a two-run single from Nicholas Blane and another walk to make it 11-2. Junior Chase Selucky then hit an RBI double, and Bice added another RBI single. The Lions closed out the inning with two runs on errors to push the lead to 15-2.

Texas Wind scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth, but Granger maintained control to secure the run-rule victory.

Martinez earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing three runs while striking out five.

With the win, Granger improved to 6-7 overall. The Lions returned to district play against Bartlett before hosting Thorndale on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m.
