LOTT — The Granger Lady Lions used a dominant seventh inning to pull away from Rosebud-Lott in a 14-4 road victory on Friday, March 28.
Granger scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to break the game open, capping off a strong offensive performance.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-RBI double from freshman Rylinn Hamby. Rosebud-Lott went down in order in the bottom half, and Granger added to its lead in the third with a sacrifice fly from senior Marissa Hall.
Sophomore Kinsey Vitek followed with a two-RBI single later in the inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Rosebud-Lott responded with a threerun bottom half, scoring on a two-RBI single and an RBI groundout to trim the deficit to 5-3.
Hall launched a solo home run in the fifth to make it 6-3, and Hamby added a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 7-3.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Lady Lions exploded for seven runs in the seventh. Hamby sparked the rally with an RBI triple, followed by a two-RBI single from junior Abi Crouch.
Granger kept the pressure on with three consecutive RBI singles from sophomore Kayla Weaver and freshmen Kendall Welles and Skyla Thornsen to push the lead to 13-3. Junior Izzy Tavernier capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 14-3.
The Cougars added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Granger secured the double-digit victory.
Junior Ariana Herrera earned the win, throwing a complete game while allowing four runs and striking out six.
With the win, Granger improved to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3 in district play. The Lady Lions were scheduled to visit Bartlett on Friday, April 4, before returning home to host Thorndale on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m.
