The Thrall Tigers varsity baseball team fell to the Rogers Eagles, 5-2, on Monday, March 31, struggling at the plate with just four hits in 22 at-bats.
Thrall took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly, but Rogers answered with three runs in the bottom of the second, stringing together three consecutive RBI singles to take a 3-1 lead. The Tigers cut into the deficit in the third when junior Weston Smiley delivered an RBI single, but the Eagles responded in the fourth, scoring two more runs on an error and an RBI single.
Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Tigers suffered their second district loss of the season. Senior pitcher Maverick McAllister took his first loss of the year, allowing five runs over four innings. Senior Ty Matthews came on in relief.
The game marked the second matchup of the series after Thrall secured a 3-2 walk-off victory over Rogers in the first game on Tuesday, March 25.
The Tigers now sit at 14-31 overall and 2-2 in district play. They returned to action Tuesday, April 1, against Cameron Yoe and will host the Yoemen on Friday, April 4, at 7 p.m.
