GEORGETOWN — The Taylor Lady Ducks varsity softball team fell 9-1 to Gateway Preparatory on Tuesday, March 25, marking their sixth consecutive district loss as they continue searching for their first district win.

Taylor trailed 1-0 after the first inning after the Gators scored on a solo home run. Freshman pitcher Payton Burrow held her own on the mound, keeping Gateway off the board for the next two innings. However, the Lady Ducks’ offense struggled to generate runs during that stretch.

Gateway extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning with a two-run home run. Taylor scored its lone run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double from Burrow, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Gators responded in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. The Lady Ducks managed just two hits in the contest, while Gateway put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by its third home run of the game.

Taylor fell to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in district play. The Lady Ducks faced Marble Falls on Friday, March 28, and will host Salado on Friday, April 4, at 7 p.m.
