The Taylor Lady Ducks varsity softball team fell, 13-6, to the Burnet Bulldogs on Friday, March 21, as fielding struggles continued with seven errors.
Taylor trailed 2-0 after the first inning after Burnet scored on an RBI double and a groundout. The Lady Ducks went down in order in the bottom half.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 4-0 in the second, capitalizing on a fielding error that allowed the leadoff batter to reach base. Burnet added three more runs over the next two innings, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Taylor broke through in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore Enicia Quintanilla launched a three-run home run, cutting the deficit to 7-3. Quintanilla finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Both teams were scoreless in the fifth before Burnet tacked on four runs in the sixth to go up 11-3. Taylor couldn’t respond in the bottom half, and the Bulldogs extended their lead to 13-3 entering the seventh.
The Lady Ducks rallied for three runs in their final at-bat but ultimately fell short after a popout ended the game.
Freshman utility player Payton Burrow took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing five runs. The defeat marks Taylor’s fifth straight district loss as the Lady Ducks continue searching for their first district win.
Taylor fell to 5-11 overall and 0-5 in district play as it returned to action Tuesday, March 25, against Gateway Preparatory before hosting Marble Falls on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m.
