Page’s bat holds off Lady Bulldogs

Kayleigh Page was locked in and focused as she battled at the plate in during her game winning at bat last Tuesday, March 29, against Burnet.

Diamond Lady Duck Kayleigh Page, finished 3-for-3 at the plate March 29. Page drove in two runs to include the game winner in last Tuesday nights walk-off win for the Lady Ducks over the Burnet Lady Bulldogs, 3-2.

The Lady Ducks jumped ahead in the low scoring affair early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kennan Nunamaker led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a Mackenzie Watson reached base via an error back to the pitcher.

When Nunamaker reached third base, two batters later, Kayshawna Fields came in to run for her. Alyssa Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Nunamaker to tag from third for Taylor’s first run of the game. With Watson at second and Ortiz at first, Page singled to center field for her first hit of the game to send Watson home, doubling the Lady Ducks lead.

The contest would remain 2-0 in Taylor’s favor until the top of the final inning. A double, single and an error evened the contest at 2-2.

In their final inning of at-bats the Lady Ducks brought home the win. Watson led off with a single only to be taken down on a double play by the Lady Bulldogs. Ortiz then doubled to center field setting up Page’s final at bat.

Page fought in her at bat fouling off four straight pitches. After ball two, Page sent her third hit of the night to center field to drive in Ortiz for the Lady Ducks win.

Lindsay O’Dell added to her strikeout total with 15 on the night, bringing her overall season total to 146 in 12 appearances. O’Dell surrendered just two hits and gave up two runs in the contest.

The Lady Ducks were back at home to start off April against Gateway Prep on Friday, April 1.
