THRALL — The Thrall Tigerettes varsity softball team came up short in a high-scoring battle, falling 11-8 to Franklin in extra innings on Thursday, March 13. The teams combined for seven home runs in the contest.
Franklin struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a groundout. Thrall responded in the bottom half when Riley Luton crushed a threerun homer to put the Tigerettes ahead 3-1.
The Lions capitalized on an error to trim the deficit to 3-2 before reclaiming the lead in the third with a tworun home run, making it 4-3.
Thrall answered in the bottom half, scoring three runs behind a solo homer from Kenzie Engelke and a two-run shot by Mikayla Velasquez to go up 6-4. After a scoreless fourth inning, Franklin tied the game at 6 with a home run.
The Lions then moved ahead 8-6 on a two-run double, but Velasquez delivered again, blasting her second home run of the night to knot the score at 8 and force extra innings.
Franklin pulled away in the eighth, launching a three-run homer to take an 11-8 lead. Thrall had a chance in the bottom half, but a double play ended the game.
The Tigerettes dropped to 8-9 overall and 1-3 in district play. They will look to bounce back when they host Milano on Friday, March 21, at 6 p.m.
