For the fourth time in five games, the Granger baseball team put up more than 11 runs.
The Lions brought home their third straight win with a 16-6 beatdown against Milano last Wednesday, March 30. In their two meetings this season. Granger outscored the Eagles 27-11 with the Lions coming away the victor both times.
After the first inning, the Lions scored in every subsequent inning. To start the second inning Granger loaded the bases when Johnny Ryder and Travis Burton were both hit by a pitch. Trent Wilkie then walked to load the bases for Granger.
Ryder and Burton crossed home on back-to-back wild pitches by Milano to put the Lions ahead 2-0. Thomas Hall then drove home Wilkie after a throw by the third baseman went off target and increased Granger’s lead to 3-0. Cobe Whitney was then hit by a pitch to reach first base. Another Milano miscue loaded the bases once again for the Lions as Isaac Lizardo reached base safely. Nathan Tucker then doubled home all three runners to increase the Lions lead to 6-0.
The Lions added four more runs in their half of the third inning to take a comfortable 10-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Whitney was hit for the second time in the game to force home Wilkie. Lizardo then walked to force home Hall home. After Tucker went down swinging, Donnie Cantwell delivered two more runs with a single to stretch the Lions’ lead.
The Eagles scrounged together two runs in the bottom of the third inning to break into the run column.
In the Lions fourth, Hall and Burton scored to give the Lions an even dozen runs going ahead again by 10 runs.
The Eagles grabbed a third run in their half of the fourth inning to make a 12-3 game.
Ryder, Cantwell and Tucker scored in the Granger fifth inning to extend the Lions’ lead to 15-3.
The Ealges continued to chip away in the game to add two more runs to make the score 15-5.
Each team would score once more to close out the contest.
Nathan Tucker led on the hill for the Lions going five innings with four strikeouts.
The 5-6 Lions were back in action on Friday, April 1, as they traveled to Bremond.
