HUTTO — The Hutto Lady Hippos cruised to a dominant 17-0 victory over Manor in three innings. Hutto has now outscored its last three opponents 42-0.
The Lady Hippos plated seven runs in the first inning, starting with a run on a fielder’s choice to take a 1-0 lead. They extended the advantage to 3-0 after scoring on an error and an RBI double from junior M’Kayla Hicks.
Hutto added four more runs on another error, a two-RBI single from Makayla Martinez, and a fielder’s choice to make it 7-0. Martinez finished 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs.
Freshman Bailey Kelley got the start in the circle, throwing two innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three. Sophomore Molly Krieg pitched the final inning in relief.
Hutto’s offense erupted again in the second, scoring 10 more runs. The Lady Hippos capitalized on an error before senior Jayda Gallegos hit a two-RBI double to push the lead to 10-0. Martinez followed with an RBI double, and Kelley added an RBI single to make it 12-0. The scoring spree continued as Manor walked in five consecutive runs.
With the win, Hutto improved to 3-8 overall and 3-2 in district play. The Lady Hippos looked to continue their hot streak against Cedar Ridge on Friday, March 14, before hosting Vandegrift on Monday, March 17, at 7 p.m.
